Sunday Run (12/26)
Sunday marked the time to run off all of those Christmas cookies and start long-distance training for the Carlsbad half-marathon. I did 9 miles around Mission Bay/Mission Beach/Pacific Beach. It was a beautiful day. I had the cool ocean breeze and good tunes on Pandora to keep me going. Gotta do 10 miles each weekend until race day: 1/23/11.

Reboot
This blog started out as a way for some friends and I to stay motivated to exercise regularly. Some of us lived in various parts of the country, so the idea was that this would be a way for us to workout together in a sense. The buddy system is supposed to be great for staying on track for fitness. We'd be accountable to each other. Turns out that this doesn't work at all long distances. The one friend who did post regularly actually worked across the hall from me while she was posting, and we still couldn't manage to get together and work out. She stopped posting after a couple of months and I think everyone stopped paying attention to this space.
So I've decided to use it now for my regular training updates, to get ideas, and post suggestions. I've been pretty motivated for the past few years to be active. This fitness attitude of mine got a big jolt about three years ago when I tore my ACL skiing. After surgery, followed by a long atypical recovery in which I couldn't bend my knee for months, it felt great to be moving again: swimming, biking, and my old (secretly loved) nemesis, running.
I've challenged myself in various ways over the past few years and want to continue to meet new physical goals. The next two big things that are in the horizon are a triathlon and Mt. Whitney. Please read and participate.
